The stage was definitely set for a MIAA B Championship rematch between the St. Paul’s Crusdaers and the Severn School Admirals. The Crusaders definitely wanted to get some payback for last year’s game, while the Admirals looking to add another championship to the belt. 1ST HALF - The game was fast paced, and the Crusders struck first scoring off the tip off. But the Admirals did not fold, adding some ky three pointers that enabled them to maintain a tight game lead for the first half, 30-26. 2ND HALF - The tables turned in this half. The KEY changing agent was St. Paul’s ability to crash the boards. Rebounding turned the tide and enabled them to take the lead that Severn could not respond. The St. Paul’s Crusaders came up victorious, winning 61-53 CONGRATULATIONS Cruders, happy to see you win a championship here and in football this past fall. Keep shining GOOD JOB Admirals, don’t hold your head down. Learn, grow, and come back in the future. Proud of you. BOTH teams here were VERY WELL COACHED Thank you for the hard work you put in.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing TJ “Terence Jones III” (#0) of SFA following their 77–67 win over Mount Carmel. TJ finished with 21 points, 6 assists, and 2 rebounds, leading the charge with a big-time second half. He spoke on the team’s connection, saying they believe the only team that can beat them is themselves. Locked in on a championship goal, he credited sticking to his routine and trusting the scout. After admitting he was forcing shots early, a halftime reset helped him focus on making the right play and everything soon opened up quickly for him. But it didn’t stop with him. #12 Jaliel Spears added 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal. #15 Anthony Smith matched the energy with 21 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 4 rebounds. #05 Carter Fisk contributed 16 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. A complete team effort from SFA to secure the 10-point victory.
Apologies for the late recap but the performance from St. Frances Academy boys basketball is still worth highlighting after their 84–73 win over Mount St. Joseph on January 13. St. Frances set the tone early, dominating the first half on both ends of the floor. The Panthers played with pace, shared the ball well, and controlled the glass, building a comfortable lead before halftime. Offensively, Terence Jones III and Carter Fisk led the way with 27 points each, combining for a powerful scoring punch that consistently broke down the Gaels’ defense. Chance McCoy added 12 points, providing timely buckets and energy throughout the game. On the boards, Jaliel Spears finished with a team-high 8 rebounds, while Jones III (7 rebounds), McCoy (6 rebounds), and James Branch (5 rebounds) helped St. Frances control the paint. Fisk also contributed as a playmaker, leading the team with 5 assists. After halftime, Mount St. Joseph made adjustments and lifted their intensity, allowing them to close some of the gap in the second half. However, the Panthers’ dominant first-half performance proved to be the difference as St. Frances held on for the victory.
Springdale Prep and Archbishop Spalding (ASHS) delivered one of the most intense matchups of the night, with Prep pulling away late in overtime for a 71–69 victory after four tightly contested quarters. First Half ASHS set the tone early, controlling the pace throughout the first half. Strong defensive effort and timely buckets allowed Spalding to take a 31–26 lead into halftime, keeping Springdale Prep on its heels and forcing tough possessions. After Halftime Coming out of the break, Springdale Prep responded with increased pressure on both ends. ASHS still held a narrow advantage heading into the fourth quarter at 40–39, but momentum began to slip. With the flow slowing, #11 Braxton Bogard was reinserted and immediately brought energy back into the game, helping ASHS regain rhythm as the intensity rose. On the other side, Springdale Prep’s #10, along with #4 and #1, pushed the tempo and kept constant pressure on ASHS, creating scoring opportunities and forcing the defense to adjust. Fourth Quarter The fourth quarter was a grind. ASHS guard Nash Avery (#23) was locked in defensively, making life difficult for Prep late and setting the tone in crunch time. With under two minutes remaining, Springdale Prep’s #1 went down with an injury and had to be carried off the floor, silencing the gym momentarily. Despite the setback, regulation ended tied, sending the game into overtime. Overtime Springdale Prep came into overtime with urgency. #10 stepped up in the biggest moment, knocking down a clutch three to swing momentum. ASHS answered right back as Avery (#23) attacked the rim for a powerful dunk, keeping Spalding within striking distance. Prep’s #4 then showcased deep-range confidence, hitting timely shots as both teams traded blows. A late three by Spalding cut the deficit, but Prep’s execution down the stretch proved decisive.
Yesterday I got the chance to see some MIAA B Conference basketball. I saw the Friends School of Baltimore Quakers take on conference rivals St. Paul’s Crusaders. The Crusaders came in at 6-4 with notable wins against A Conference Loyola Blakefield, McDonogh, and a win against Conference rival Archbishop Curley. The Quakers came in 4-5 with notable wins against Annapolis Area Christian and Park. To begin the game the Quakers came out hot holding the Crusaders 24-21 at the half. The second half was not the same story. The Crusaders were playing great defense forcing turnovers, 3 point desperation shots, and holding the Quakers to only 9 points in the second half. On the other side of the paint the Crusaders were winning all the rebounds scoring 25 points in the second half. The game would end 33-46 making the Quakers go 4-6 and 1-2 in conference play while the Crusaders go 7-4 and now 2-1 in conference play.
Saint Frances Academy earned a statement 56–50 road win over McDonogh in a high-intensity, down-to-the-wire battle. With the game cutting close throughout, multiple SFA players rose to the moment and made winning plays on both ends of the floor. Anthony Smith was a steady two-way presence, finishing with 14 points, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds, consistently applying pressure defensively while delivering timely buckets. Chance “03” McCoy controlled the tempo, posting 11 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals, showcasing his ability to impact the game as a floor general and defensive disruptor With important steals and plays. Leading the way, Carter Fisk put together a standout performance with 18 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, punctuated by two momentum-shifting dunks in key moments that energized his team and silenced the home crowd. A complete team effort, composure under pressure, and elite energy on both ends fueled Saint Frances Academy’s road victory.

These teams had already played each other with the Cavaliers winning by two points back in early December. 1st Period - The game began with a very physical start, both teams struggling to get a bucket due to tough defense and block shots. But the Gaels led the period 8-4. 2nd Period - The scoring picked up when Spalding’s (#3) Moe Loregan and (#22) Nash Avery by a few And 1 plays, and dunks by Nash For MSJ, numbers 31, 5 and 1 stood out with some clean 3’s . But the Gaels still held their lead, 23-25, going in to halftime. 3rd Period - The period started with MSJ’s (#1) leading the charge with some tough layups, 3 pointers, and rebounds to increase the lead. Still scoring from Moe kept Spalding in the game. The end of the 3rd, MSJ still ahead 39-36. 4th Period - Gaels (#1) made plays again with (#12) hitting a three . MSJ used Spalding’s broken shot clock to their advantage (Note: One of the shot clocks was acting improperly so the school decided not to use a shot clock in the game) by draining the clock with ball movement and long extended plays. This caused the Cavaliers to have to foul. Spalding attempted a late comeback but it was unsuccessful as MSJ would get revenge from their first match to win 59-53. Game MVP MSJ’s (#1) Ace Valentine.

The Flyers kept it close with big defense stops but Spalding’s #22 Nash A, and #11 Braxton B kept the the flow. 2nd Period - Spalding pushed forward their lead by a couple viscous dunks from Nash Avery, 3 pointers by #3 Moe L, and couple others contributing on offense. The Cavaliers were able leave out of the half with a 34-19 lead 3rd Period - PGCA started off with a 8-0 run to open the quarter pulling them closer to Spalding and causing them to call for a quick timeout. After a couple shots from #12 on the Flyers brought it to a 6 point game mid 3rd. Spalding was still able to still keep control but PGCA Flyers were clearly fighting back with the score being 42-40. 4th Period - With the quarter beginning, PGCA started off on a 12-1 run containing Nash Avery from scoring. And with some added big plays by the Flyers’ #4, they went up 8 point with 3 mins to go. And as the game clocked ticked on down, the Flyers continued with some crucial turnovers and a dragger rim hanging dunk by #11 PGCA won 58-48. Game MVP #4 from PGCA ZayMillz MFVAllSportsNetwork
The Mustangs (3-0) won their home opener tonight in Fort Meade defeating MIAA B Conference Archbishop Curley 58-45 to win their 3 game in a row in 4 days. Meade placed 4 players in double figures. Senior Jayvon Thomas led the attack scoring 16pts & 5 rebounds while fellow seniors Arouna Soumaoro scored 12 pts & 8 rebounds & Ty’son Hill 11 pts & 3 assists. Junior Keon Scott added 10 pts & 5 assists. The Mustangs next play rival Arundel at home Friday at 6:45.
