New Town and Patapsco opened the 2026 Baltimore County volleyball slate on Friday with the county’s lone match that went past three sets. The Patriots took down the Titans at home 3-2. In the fall of 2025, the Titans opened their season with a 7-1 record that saw shutout wins at Dundalk and home against Lansdowne. However, their season ended with a six game losing streak, including their postseason opener against Marriotts Ridge, bringing them to an even .500 in the campaign. For Patapsco, their season started on a different note, going 4-4 in their first eight before a five game winning streak towards the end of the season. Their season ended on an unfortunate note as the Patriots dropped their first playoff game 3-0 against Towson, giving them an overall record of 10-6. Last season, the Patriots and Titans split the season series with each team winning the away match. New Town won on the road at Patapsco 3-2 on September 30 while the Patriots won a New Town on October 23 3-1. The season opener started heavily in favor of Patapsco with the Patriots winning nine of the first ten points. New Town battled back to make it a 9-4 set, but the team couldn’t put any series together where they won more than two consecutive points. Three Patriot aces helped them win the first set 25-12. New Town took their first lead of the match early in the second set. No. 18 was behind the line, taking the Titans from down 3-1 to ahead 6-3 consecutively. Despite the advantage, Patapsco senior middle blocker Khiri Ford led the Patriots to reclaim the lead, scoring eight consecutive points to make it an 11-6 set. The Patriots dominated the back half of the set, finishing on a 10-2 run to claim their second point. Down 2-0, New Town began to get going. The Titans scored four straight points on two separate occasions in the third set, going from down 3-2 to up 6-3 and from tied at 13 to leading 17-13. The set, in six different instances, saw both teams tied (at two, three, 10, 12, 13, 17, and 18). Down 22-21 in the set, the Titans rallied to win four of the last five points to win the third set 25-23. The fourth set started with Patapsco leading early before a long delay due to injury. CSZ sends its thoughts to the New Town libero who was injured in the fourth set. After the delay, the Patriots took a lead as big and as late as 19-11, but the Titans did not let them have the win. With No. 10 behind the line, New Town shrunk Patapsco’s lead from 20-15 to a tie. Down to their last point, the Titans rallied from down 24-21 to winning the set 26-14, sending the game into a tiebreaker set. That tiebreaker saw the Patriots take an early 3-1 lead. While Patapsco rallied to tie it at four and trail by one, senior outside Paicence Milam took the Patriots’ lead from 8-7 to 13-7. New Town did get to eight points, but Patapsco finished the set with a 15-8 win, securing the five set overall victory. Patapsco will return home for their next game on September 16 to face Woodlawn while New Town will have their home opener on Wednesday against Dundalk.
Baltimore County football kicked off their 2026 season on Friday. Week one saw the Sparrows Point Pointers excel like no other BCPS team as they took down the Lansdowne Vikings in a 50-6 home rout. Last fall, Sparrows Point finished as one of two undefeated Baltimore County teams, winning each of their eight games. In the postseason, the Pointers won a pair of regional playoff games, beating Surrattsville 43-6 and Central 34-6 en route to a regional title. Their season came to an end in the first game of the state bracket as Sparrows fell at home to eighth-ranked Lackey 42-13. Lansdowne had a rough season, finishing the regular season at 2-7, beating Western Tech 32-28 in week four and Chesapeake 20-0 in week six. Their 2025 campaign quickly came to an end as the Vikings fell 26-12 on the road against the Carver Bears in the first round of the regional playoffs. Sparrows Point and Lansdowne faced off in week one last season where the Pointers came away with a 14-6 home win. The Pointer offense moved the ball with ease on their first drive, stacking several consecutive first downs. The drive ended on a jet sweep 1:45 into the game as Chase Carnahan took a jet sweep 30 yards for a touchdown. On their next drive, the offense got the ball to the 11-yard line where senior Brooks Tuohy took a handoff to the left side and into the end zone. After another Viking punt and with the ball on their own 45, Paxton Clark made a contested catch that went down as a 47-yard reception. Three plays later, Macin McNew was the target of a quick screen pass from junior quarterback Cody Green, reaching the end zone from five yards out to put Sparrows ahead 20-0 after one. Lansdowne held the Pointers scoreless in the second while scoring their only touchdown of the game. The score came with 7:23 left on the clock. With the ball at the Sparrows Point 29-yard line, junior quarterback Ayeden Butler threw a dime to a receiver who shook off the Pointer defender and scored. Sparrows Point’s offense got back to work in the third. Several tough rushes around the six minute mark set up the Pointers first and goal on the three, setting up running back Ian Wolfe to take a direct snap and run into the end zone. On the ensuing kickoff, the Lansdowne returner fumbled the kick and the ball was recovered by Sparrows’ No. 19 (not on roster). Three plays later, Cody Green handed the ball off to Julius Harris on a jet sweep who scored from 15 yards out, giving the Pointers a 36-6 lead. The Vikings were driving late in the third, but Butler threw into double coverage at the Sparrows 10-yard line and an interception ended both the scoring chance and the quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter on fourth and long from the 15, Green connected with senior tight end Zachary Stansburge to put the Pointers above the 40 mark. On the next drive, a Viking fumble was recovered by Joshua Henson and returned to the Lansdowne five yard line. On the next play, No. 30 (not on roster) ran the ball to the right side and into the end zone for the final score of the game. Sparrows Point ended the game soon after, finishing their 50-6 rout over the Lansdowne Vikings. The Pointers will look to keep their dominant play going in week two on the road against 0-1 Patapsco while the Vikings stay on the road to face 1-0 Towson.

Quince Orchard Football Shuts Down Paint Branch In 28-0 Victory The Quince Orchard Cougars have won five of the last nine Maryland 4A Championships, including each of the last two. They have won 28 consecutive games. The history of dominance continued Friday night, as they started their attempt for a three-peat by shutting out the Paint Branch Panthers 28-0. The dominance started early as a safety just seven minutes into the game put the Cougars on the board, and on the ensuing drive, Quince Orchard scored their first touchdown of the 2026 campaign. Senior quarterback Carter Daily found senior wide receiver Rafferty Bankert in stride for the score and it was quickly 8-0. Seth Rubin missed the following extra point, keeping the score the same. A second touchdown pass from Daily went to Jaiden Hebron, and Rubin converted the extra point to extend the lead to 15-0. The lead was 18 at the halftime break, as Rubin kicked a 42 yard field goal, and the Panthers showed no signs of stopping in half number two. Rubin drilled a 30 yard field goal, his second of the game, extending the lead to 21-0. The final score of the game was a second touchdown reception for Bankert, completing a very impressive performance. It wasn’t however, an impressive night from Panthers senior quarterback Leoul Solomon. He recorded very limited action a season ago behind now graduate Vincent Do, and game one as the pronounced starter was rough. Solomon threw for 3 interceptions, including two in the first quarter alone. The first of those was intercepted by Jamie White Jr., which gave the Cougars momentum and eventually the early lead. Both of which they never relinquished. For Daily, he was also the backup a season ago, sitting behind Will Drakeford Jr., who now plays for the University of Kentucky. However, getting the nod as the starting quarterback for the 2026 season did not rattle him whatsoever. He was sacked twice, but threw both touchdown passes over 30 yards apiece. Early in the second half, Rico Jackson was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury and did not return to the game. Both teams will play their next games from the comfort of home, as they both return to action on Thursday September 10th, as Quince Orchard will host the Walter Johnson Wildcats, while Paint Branch faces off with the Einstein Titans. Damascus Field Hockey Squeaks By Sherwood 5-4 In Overtime Thriller A back and forth affair between two field hockey powerhouses occurred early Saturday morning as the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets took down the Sherwood Warriors 5-4. The scoring started early as Damascus' Mary Miller scored on a penalty corner opportunity eight minutes into the game. Sherwood senior Sophia Kaser responded with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, finding the top corner of the net and sneaking it past Avery Hillman. The first quarter ended knotted up with one goal per side. Miller scored her second goal of the game just three and a half minutes into quarter number two, but a big response came from Sherwood as senior Emerson Phillips tapped a centering pass in at the 10:14 mark. Kaser then added her second of an eventual three goals as she scored on a penalty corner with 2:31 remaining in the first half. Heading into halftime, the Warriors held onto a 3-2 lead. The Swarmin’ Hornets came out in half number two with a huge head of steam, as Nia Marshall scored twice. The first goal was a dribble and shoot, and the second off a penalty corner that came with 7:39 remaining in the third quarter. Kaser then completed the hat trick, scoring her third goal of the game just 34 seconds later. There was a little luck on her side, however, as she was the last Warrior to touch the ball before it was accidentally knocked in by the defending Hornets. The fourth quarter saw zero goals scored and the match went to overtime tied up at four goals apiece. To overtime it went, with both sides trying to take advantage of any holes in their opponents’ defensive lines. Then, eight minutes into overtime, Marshall finished her trifecta of goals, scoring on a long shot down the field that got by Hillman for the walkoff goal. The first three quarters of action saw eight total goals before approximately a half hour of gametime with no one able to find the back of the net. Marshall’s score ended the game and gave Damascus their first win of 2026.

Last year with the Bears, it was Navy-bound Alex Rodriguez. Two years ago with Spalding, it was Malik Washington, who is now the University of Maryland's No. 1 quarterback. The Thomas Johnson defensive back lurked near the end zone with Catoctin threatening to take a lead late in the third quarter. Cougars quarterback Chase Cregger fired a pass, but it deflected off his receiver’s hands and right to Scott. The sophomore knew he couldn't pass up the chance in his varsity debut.
