Hailing from Sykesville, Maryland, Bryan Costabile’s lacrosse journey began in backyard battles with his brothers before erupting on the fields of Mount Saint Joseph High School. There, he tallied 149 goals and earned All-American honors, becoming one of the most dominant midfielders in Maryland history. At Notre Dame, Costabile set the program record for goals by a midfielder (42 in 2019) and finished with 99 career goals, ninth all-time for the Irish. Known for his blistering on-the-run shot and off-ball movement, he became a two-way threat and a team leader. Drafted second overall in the 2020 PLL College Draft by the Atlas, Costabile’s pro career has been marked by quiet consistency and explosive potential. In the 2025 PLL Championship, he delivered when it mattered most—scoring the final two goals in a dramatic 14–13 comeback win over Denver, sealing Atlas’ first league title. Costabile’s path is a blueprint for Maryland’s lacrosse elite: humble beginnings, relentless development, and clutch greatness. 🥍 🥍 MY LAX FAMILY FACES MY LAX FRIENDS Calvert Hall vs Spalding This game was a game I wanted to see. My alma mater, my HS family takes on a school that has showed themselves friendly to MillerFlow. My family vs my friends!!!! Calvert Hall, my fam, vs Archbishop Spalding, my friends. Game started out with Calvert Hall scoring first, and Spalding answering back. And it looked like the game was going to be a back and forth scoring match. However, my friends established a 3-4pt lead which my family struggled to come back through out the game, even though they had some beautiful scores. Was a good matchup. 🥍 🥍 ON THE HUNT AGAIN WITH MY ALMA MATER Gilman vs Calvert Hall The weather was absolutely wonderful. Got right into the action as I missed the opening score by Gilman; it just happened so fast. I may be wrong, but these MIAA teams seem to go at a faster pace, so scoring quick appears to be essential. Also the 80 second shot clock could be a factor. Whatever the case, I am learning to keep the record button on a little longer. Calvert Hall answered back in few minutes later tying the game up. Then as second quarter began, the Hall began to spread their lead scoring three goals in a few minutes. Calvert Hall has something special, almost like the whole team is just in sync (on defense, midfield, and their attackers) especially against a very good Gilman team (Don’t sleep on Gilman!!!). Arriving late, I pulled up to MFV’s high school alma mater, Calvert Hall for a varsity LAX banger!!! The undefeated Boys Latin Lakers versus the undefeated Calvert Hall Cardinals. Two really good LAX programs faced off, where the Hall held the early lead for pretty much the first half. The Lakers came back tying the game, but the Cardinals held on winning the game by 1 score in the 4th. This was definitely an epic battle. BIG SHOUTS to the BOYS LATIN LAKERS. 🥍 🥍 MAX LAX AT WHITTLES FIELD Western Reserve Academy (WRA) vs Archbishop Spalding And so we start the spring season sports off with lacrosse matchup between the Ohio based Western Reserve Academy (WRA) Pioneers faced off against Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers. Pioneers came out strong scoring the first points, but the Cavaliers answered back to begin what was a game of dominance. WRA didn’t cave to the pressure adding some key quick scores. Rather than crumble under the weight of immense pressure and expectations, the McDonogh boys’ lacrosse team rose to the occasion. The Eagles overcame setbacks and pulled through a series of close calls to win their third straight MIAA A Conference championship, joining Calvert Hall (2017-2019) as the only teams to pull off that feat. It was a testament to McDonogh’s talent, resilience and togetherness. Every time the Eagles (15-3) looked vulnerable — back-to-back losses to Calvert Hall and Archbishop Spalding in mid-April — or the end of the run appeared imminent — a two-goal deficit in the final minute of the MIAA quarterfinals against Loyola — this tight-knit group found a way to get the job done. “We just wanted it more than anyone, I think,” said senior attackman Luke Miller, a Notre Dame recruit. The 14-12 victory in the championship game on May 17 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis came against top-seeded Boys’ Latin, a team McDonogh had already beaten in April. I am beyond proud to share the incredible news that my high school lacrosse coach, Rick Brocato, is being inducted into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 2024. This well-deserved honor is a testament to Coach Broc’s outstanding career, marked by his remarkable success and profound impact on the lacrosse community. Coach Broc's tenure at St. Paul’s was nothing short of extraordinary. With 241 wins over 17 seasons, he led our team to countless victories, including the unforgettable 2010 MIAA championship. His ability to inspire and guide us to our fullest potential made every game and practice an opportunity to grow and excel. Coach Broc's influence extended far beyond the field; he shaped us into better athletes and individuals. Before his celebrated coaching career, Coach Broc was a standout player at Towson High and Washington College. His dedication to the sport and his passion for coaching have left an indelible mark on all of us who had the privilege of playing under his guidance. He not only taught us the fundamentals of lacrosse but also instilled in us the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. One of my proudest moments was seeing my best friend, Tony Rossi, coach alongside him at Towson High. Tony always spoke highly of Coach Broc's mentorship and the incredible bond they shared while coaching together. Their collaboration was a testament to Coach Broc's ability to inspire not just players but fellow coaches as well. The announcement of his induction has been met with widespread admiration and support from the community. After a tough conference loss to current conference leaders Boys Latin, Calvert Hall has rebounded to win 3 in a row and find themselves in a title eliminator against Gilman. Gilman must reset after a thrilling game that saw them defeated 17-15 against Saint Paul’s. With Boys Latin undefeated in conference play and unlikely to lose 2 of their last 4 games, whichever team loses will be unlikely to win the conference.
